Alan Ratner, President, Hugo Neu Recycling 

Senior executive and recycling veteran, Alan was responsible for strategic direction and execution in various roles at Sims Metals Management, before joining Hugo Neu as President of Hugo Neu Recycling.

Alan's industry-wide roles have included National Chairman of ISRI Environmental and Legislative Committee and Chairman of ISRI Design for Recycling.

Alan's career started in Australia when he joined Sims in 1972, as yard laborer/torch cutter, was promoted in 1973 to feeding Cu furnace, and then in 1975 to shredder equipment operator. After completing a management training program at the Sydney head office, Alan worked in international trading and then became General Manager for the State of Western Australia in 1978. In 1984, he returned to Sydney as General Manager for Cu and Al manufacturing divisions.

Alan returned to the U.S. in 1986, having facilitated Sims first U.S. business acquisition on the West Coast, and assuming the role of SVP of the acquired business. In the 1990s, he was promoted to EVP of Sims North American operations.

In 1998, Alan moved to Metal Management, assuming the role of VP of Metal Management, NE. He was promoted to President of Metal Management in 2000, and added Connecticut Operations.

In 2008, Metals Management merged with Sims Group, and Alan became North American President of Operations of Sims Metals Management, before being promoted to Global Head of Operations of Sims Metals Management in 2010.

In 2012, joined the Hugo Neu group as President of then-WeRecycle!
